HD Footage - Proxy Files Set-up
This workflow describes how to take full sized HD footage at either 1080 or 720 frame size (16:9 ratio) and down res it to smaller frame size and data rate files.
The purpose is to create a smaller file size, data rate and edit codec that will be quicker to upload or transfer digitally (such as FTP upload) as well as being able to play back more smoothly with less dropped frames on a slower machine or laptop.
Be aware when editing with Proxies that focus issues will be harder to determine as the files resolution will be significantly degradded. Also, if you add any effects, transitions, graphics or freeze frames while editing a Proxy file, they will all need to be replaced or recreated later when you reconnect the Proxy to a full size edit timeline and footage.
